Marble Countertops

Because we’ve nothing
To do but say electric
Words, living off instead of
Sleeping off, our drunkenness.

Drunkenness of life and too many
Bottles of disappointment, an
Addiction we scream to escape
Yet bottles are placed in never
Ending lines, fresh from the
Fridge and each sweating
In the summer heat.
Each imported and special
Order: break-ups, divorce, heartaches,
Money problems, they’ve got it all and
Don’t mind serving it
Out underage, the law won’t
Catch them.

We’re staggering and still
They’re sliding them along to us on
Marble countertops
All the while we’re screaming, begging,
Pleading for them to hold
Back so we can wake up and live off
Our hangovers, start living, again, face life
And move on
But, for the moment, we’ll
Mumble incoherent words that those
Who’ve never drunk like us wouldn’t know
Type them out nice and neat
To hide the ugly meanings behind,
To those who have drunk with us
Our activities momentarily
Distract us from the waiter sliding
Closer with a sweating bottle on a
Platter

We’re stumbling as more
Drinks enter our system and we
Seem to crash into more bottles
Each bigger than the last
We choked back

Lay our heads down, as the
Hopeless sun blinds us over the horizon
And we fall asleep on the clean and
Gleaming

Marble countertops

Night Sky Sleep

grasp at heavy
lidded moon beams
rising in the sleep
slogged sky
and a new
dream sparkles
its gleam
before whispering
away

Can I Be?

can i be
your
wish upon a
star?

your
happily ever
after?

dream come
true?

till death
due us
part?

can i be
the smile on
your face?

the secret
wink
before a water
gun fight?

can i be
the serious conversation

at ungodly
hours?

a random phone
call?

show up
without notice?

can i be
the girl
you
like?

Spiral

can i
spiral
out of
control

and have
someone
tell me
that

i'm not
alone?

Beach Days

wet hair
dry sand
hot sun
whispering
waves lick
curling
toes

Someone Cares

she plays her music
too loud
at night

i can hear it,
pulsing,
through our bedroom
walls

desk lamp still on
and
laptop fully loaded

set for a full
night
of her trading
instant words

and i know,
that no matter
what

i'll still creep in
every night
just to let her
know

that someone
cares

Dance

Dancing feet carress
The worn down wooden floorboards
With steps that somehow
Seem fluid, dancing their way
To the next waiting partner
